About this project

Almafor delivers and maintains the energy management and electrical network monitoring systems for Abu Dhabi Investment Council at the Al Bahr Towers headquarters, work that has run over a period of years rather than as a single installation.

The systems answer a different question from a building management system. A BMS operates the plant and is judged on comfort and on equipment life. An energy management system accounts for what that plant consumed and turns it into something an owner can act on, and it is judged on the decisions it enables.

Scope covers the supervisory software, the metering across the building's electrical distribution, and the automated meter reading that removes manual collection. Because the installation is long running, a significant part of the work is keeping it current: replacing and reprogramming field devices as they reach end of life, and migrating the supervisory platform when the version in service stops being supported.

Long running systems are where the discipline shows. A metering installation that is not maintained degrades quietly, one failed meter at a time, until the reports are still produced and no longer describe the building.
