Design and Construction of 67 Parks and Playgrounds in Various Areas in the City of Abu Dhabi CP11

About this project

This contract covered the design and construction of parks and playgrounds across several districts for the Department of Municipalities and Transport, with Almafor delivering the irrigation pumping control, instrumentation and SCADA connection.

Landscape irrigation across a city is a distributed control problem rather than a large one. The individual pump sets are modest, but they sit on sites nobody visits daily, and the cost of a failure is measured in dead planting rather than in an immediate alarm. Without telemetry a fault is typically discovered weeks later by its consequences.

Each station was fitted with a pump control panel carrying the drive, the protection and an RTU, with the field instrumentation needed to report pressure and flow. The stations report to the client's supervisory system so pump status is visible centrally and an out of hours failure raises an alarm rather than waiting for an inspection.

Panels were built and factory tested at our own workshop in Mussafah before delivery, so site work was installation and commissioning rather than fabrication.
