Project
Pump control panel for Falaj Hazza Park, Al Ain
An outdoor GRP motor control centre and a separate PLC panel with a 10 inch touch screen HMI, for a duty and standby irrigation pump set
About this project
Falaj Hazza Park is one park inside a larger Al Ain programme covering 34 parks and game sites. Its irrigation pump set, a duty and standby pair of 7.5 kW pumps, needed a control panel and the instrumentation to run it.
The panel is split in two, and the split is deliberate. The motor control centre is Form 2B in a GRP enclosure and stands outdoors, because that is where the power has to be. The PLC panel, with its 10 inch touch screen HMI, is Form 2B in a sheet steel enclosure and sits indoors. Putting the controller and the operator interface in the harsher position would have saved a little cable and cost more over the life of the station, since a touch screen behind glass in full Al Ain sun is a component with a short and predictable life.
Instrumentation is the substance of the job rather than an accessory to it. One pressure transmitter and one pressure switch, two level sensors and six level switches, one anti flood sensor, and monitoring and control of two flow meters. Six level switches on a single station looks generous until you count what they are for: start and stop levels for each duty step, plus independent high and low protection that does not depend on the analogue measurement being correct.
The panel was built to the single line diagram issued by the consultant, with the drive and protective devices to the specified manufacturer, and assembled locally. It was tested before delivery, and handover included the installation report, the testing and commissioning report and a supply certificate.
Scope of work
- Supply, testing and commissioning of the pump control panel, comprising the MCC and a separate PLC panel
- Form 2B MCC in a GRP enclosure for outdoor installation, including the variable frequency drive, built to the issued single line diagram
- Form 2B PLC panel with a 10 inch touch screen HMI in a sheet steel enclosure for indoor installation
- Panel programming, internal wiring and termination
- Supply, monitoring and control of the field instruments: one pressure transmitter, one pressure switch, two level sensors, six level switches and one anti flood sensor
- Monitoring and control of two flow meters
- Installation report, testing and commissioning report and supply certificate at handover
Equipment installed
- Schneider Modicon M340 processor with discrete and analogue I/O in the PLC panel
- Schneider variable frequency drive on the 7.5 kW duty and standby pump set
- Schneider MCCB, MCB, ELCB and 10 inch touch screen HMI
- Form 2B GRP MCC enclosure for outdoor installation, locally assembled
- Form 2B sheet steel PLC enclosure for indoor installation
- One pressure transmitter, one pressure switch, two level sensors, six level switches and one anti flood sensor
- Interface to two flow meters
